I wrote about the new bar in Newcastle, Ohso last week, and since i was out and in the area i decided to go in. It is a nice place, upmarket and what you would expect with the hype that surrounds it. It is comparble to the bars on the diamond strip, in terms of the design and type of place it is which is another trendy bar for the cool kids.
One funny thing was that the person before me was refused entry because he was wearing a Henleys t-shirt…This is very funny!
Everyone knows Henleys is the uniform of the charva, no charvas allowed in this place (yey!). There is a bad point about this, because when the place gets more established and queues start forming, i imagine they will exclude more people for no reason; its located near the bottom of the Bigg market which doesnt help.
The crowd was good, the place had people in it but was no where near full, it had a nice number of people in it though, unfirtunatly if it takes off then i guess it will get packed which may spoil its appeal.
As you walk in the door you can go to one of the too bars, which means going either up stairs or downstairs. The decor is classy, with wood floors and really nice carpet areas (how long before the carpet is runied?) nice seating areas and plenty of standing room.
They do lots of drinks, as you would expect, their standard vodka is Skyy which is American and different to other bars. This looks posh in big bottles, but its not premium, its probably the same class as Smirnoff you just dont see Skyy much in the UK. Double Skyy and Redbull was £5 which is very reasonable (got to keep the can -as it should be), the music on offer was very varied.
I would go back here. In the battle of the diamond strip i would say this is a major contender.
