I wanna be on the Guestlist or V.I.P

Posted by Michael on March 9, 2010

I probably get asked this the most out of everything, which is, can you get me on the VIP/Guestlist for certain places….

The question comes mostly from people outside of Newcastle on a night out. The easiest way of getting on the guestlist, or VIP or whatever, is to contact the bar/club direct and letting them know. If you dont know which bar/club, read my reviews, and pick which one you like then contact them. A lot of them also have Facebook groups/pages set up, and you can ask them via that.

The thing is with the Newcastle Guestlists/VIP is that in most cases, ANYONE can be on them. So this makes them less “VIP-ish”.

Most dont offer anything at all, other than to queue jump, and usually that is only before a certain time; For example you can go to Tiger Tiger, and be on the guestlist via their website. However, lots of people do this, and i have seen lots of the time the normal queue be much smaller than the guestlist queue!

In Bijoux they have a VIP type of area, where you can book a table, just call them in advance. I was in there the other week, and there were 2 girls sitting alone in the “VIP” at their table…Which didnt look like they were having much of a good time!

If you are going out with a group of people this can be a fun thing to do, but you may find in some places you alienate yourself from the rest of the crowd, it all depends on what you are like, what you want etc.

Tup Tup Palace have a VIP, but will only open it up to you if you have money…There are minimum spends, depending on what yours is, depends on the area they will let you have. I believe the absolute minimum is around £250, which is an upper dancefloor booth for upto 8 people, that price doesnt include the 10% service charge for the hostess.

Other places which let you reserve an area/table are Revolution and Floritas, aswell as the others mentioned; Tiger Tiger and Bijoux all of these are free to reserve.

What do you think of the VIP style nights? Have you had one in Newcastle, what was it like? Let me know by adding your comments :)

I should also add that Newcastle VIP is not a booking service, i can help you, but we dont book tables for visitors :)

Good Nightclubs In Newcastle?

Posted by Michael on January 18, 2010

Where are the good nightclubs in Newcastle? No really, Where are they?! It seems like we have loads of good bars in NCL, but Nightclubs, well, where are they…

They all seem to be the same these days, with the exception of probably Digital, which has big name events and big name DJs, which come at a big price.

Tup Tup Palace, The Cut and others are very similar in the crowds they pull in, same music all over the place, same attitudes.

Then you have the others, Blu Bambu, Mood, The Attic, Liquid/Envy which are different but the same, different crowds to the above but still the same crowds go to these, similar music and so on…

So if you look at it like that, there are only 2 actual places to go. Since we have so many late bars these days, is it the end of the clubs?

2010 – Where’s the Party at?

Posted by Michael on January 2, 2010

What will be the hot spots in Newcastle in 2010? Do we have any new clubs coming, or nights? 2009 was all about the diamond strip, and it looks set to continue into 2010.

Milecastle is a nice pub/bar/club

Posted by Michael on December 20, 2009

I was in The Milecastle last night, and it is a nice place. It used to be the old sports cafe, now ran by JD Wetherspoons. The majority of the layout is the same as there were no major changes to be made. The decor is different, now there are nice carpets, tables and other fixtures and fittings. The main bar on the middle floor has a pub feel to it, and you can now get directly down to the basement club part without going up the stairs to the middle bar and back down.

After a certain time (10pm i believe) there is a charge to get in. This is only £2 and was the same when it was the sports cafe. This is a little dangerous, because it is supposed to be a pub, but does have a club, and you shouldn’t pay to get into a pub, especially a Wetherspoons pub with their reputation of having reasonable prices.

Ohso Bar changes its name to Oh-no!

Posted by Michael on December 20, 2009

When i was out last night i was going to go into the newest bar on the diamond strip, Ohso…But when i got to the door i was told it was £5 to get in…£5?!? Its a bar!! Since when does a person pay to go into a bar?

Thats definatly a mark against Ohso. A new bar, and its already charging people trying to cash in on it being a new trendy bar. It should realise that the ‘new’ feel will soon be over losing that appeal. Why would you pay to go here when you can go to Perdu, Baby Lynch, Bijoux or any of the other similar bars on the diamond strip. So its £5 in, and then the drinks are expensive, but its not a club.

Oh well, plenty bars on the diamond strip for us all to go to rather than Ohno :)

Milecastle New Bar in Newcastle by JD Wetherspoons

Posted by Michael on December 8, 2009

milecastle

The new bar which we wrote about a few weeks back opens this week, and its called The Milecastle.  As we previously said, it is owned by the JD Weatherspoon chain, who promised last week to create thousands of jobs. It replaces the old Sports Cafe which is located on Westgate road.

This place looked like it was still in the building stages only 2 weeks ago, never mind ready to open…However it seems that bars get their builders from another planet to the rest of us, because yet again a bar opens waaaaay ahead of schedule.

What should you expect? Well it’s said there will be 3 bars on the 3 floors, with 2 dancefloor areas. It will specialise in real ales, have music on throughout the day and DJs on Friday and Saturday nights. It will be open until 3AM on a Saturday night. So a typical Wetherspoons pub with a city-bar twist, we shall see if it is any good very soon, as its supposed to be opening this Friday (11 December 2009).
