Newcastle Bars and Clubs

Stein Bier Keller – Newcastle Quayside

Posted by NewcastleVIP on August 12, 2010

The Stein Bier Keller has been open for a few months now, but i would still call it a new bar. It used to be Blue, and before that Julies 2.

They have made the place smaller, and changed the layout completly. It has more of a diner feel to the place, with the tables and chairs round the outside at the windows, with space for a dancefloor. It has regular live music and a DJ on Saturday nights.

When i went in i have to say it was a big change. I went up to the bar, and they didnt seem to sell anything i have heard of! Well i say that, they did have Duvel, but i didnt want one of those. Another bar selling 1 brand of cheap vodka, and other cheap spirits. I settled for a Desperados and i dont know why, because it tasted horrible!

The bar was ok, and the staff were friendly but it was a bit empty. The rest of the bars were jam packed, so it wasnt a quiet night. The biggest problem was the drinks selection, it just didnt seem to have many. I think its fair enough to sell world beers, but if you do you should offer some familiar names aswell, Corona, Budweizer, Miller or whatever.

The music was good, so that was a plus point :) Since its a German themed kind of place i would of loved to have heard German pop, but that was never gonna happen :D It would of been cool though :P

Good Times At Bar Beyond

Posted by NewcastleVIP on July 26, 2010

I was at Bar Beyond last Wednesday, and they have their night, “Good Times”, but i cant say it was good.

The DJ was the worst i have ever heard!!! Seriously, in all my years of going out, i have never heard anyone so bad. Fading up and down songs to mix with huge gaps, playing songs at stupid levels then trying to change them, fading songs out after 20 seconds, the mixing which was non existent. After going clubbing for all my years, home and abroad, this was the worst i have ever heard a DJ play. How can they get into a club? I’d be embarrassed if i played like that in my house just in case the neighbours heard how bad it was. The best mix was when the DJ went to the toilet or somewhere, and played 2-3 tracks of a pre-mix someone else obviously done.

This was free to get in this week, if i had to pay i would genuinly of asked for my money back, that is how bad it was.

The drinks were strangely priced aswell. They offered some cheap, but crappy drinks such as crap vodka + cola for £1, a bottle of anything with a label on was £3+ such as Sol or WKD.

The crowd was decent, a good few numbers getting in which was the only good thing, not too busy, but a good number of people.

Bambu Newcastle: The New Bambu

Posted by NewcastleVIP on May 13, 2010

Well well, it seems like the good people of Blu Bambu seem to be listening to us…The place has been closed for ages, and undergoing a refurb, and a “new club” is opening tonight…

We have been saying for such a long time that its crap, its tired, old, has nothing to offer, and you have been telling us the same.

We say new, its called “Bambu” instead of Blu Bambu…Not much of a change there. What else do they have? Well cheap drinks, they broadcast to Metro radio on a Friday night, and offer dancefloor classics from all the decades…That sounds like pretty much the same club to me!

A crowd winner would be “new door staff and new attitudes”, since that was there biggest problem before.

They are going to offer “Something the North East has never seen before”, and I have no idea what that could be, i dont believe them for some reason.

If we are privilaged enough to get into the building i will give it a proper review, until then you may aswell read the old reviews, i am guessing it wont have changed.

Baby Lynch Empty

Posted by NewcastleVIP on April 19, 2010

Wow some bars really gets hit hard on mid-month Friday nights, and i dont mean in a good way….Check out this pic, in Baby Lynch, at around 9pm. That is the bar, and there are no people, let alone queues at it!

I was in, and there were about 4 or 5 groups of people in there, that counts 2-3 people as a group. It was so empty it was untrue.

There were 2 PR people outside, a doorman, and probably 6 bar staff…Thats 9 people and probably less than 20 customers at one time!

And what happens when i go? They sell a crap drink and get it wrong! Baby Lynch is one of the “more sophisticated” bars allegedly. But when i got a Vodka and Redbull i got the same old generic energy drink and some Smirnoff vodka which tasted really watered down. The drink tasted so watered down!! They have Redbull, and i ask for Redbull, but thats not what you get. How much do you think for a weak tasting vodka and fake Redbull? £4.50!!

I really dont understand how a bar which is supposed to be upmarket wants to sell their customers cheap drinks at expensive prices. Maybe thats why it was empty!

Babylon Bar – 90s Bar (ex Boom)

Posted by NewcastleVIP on April 19, 2010

I was in Boom Babylon on Friday night, and it was a good night. If you have been before it is more or less the same in terms of the style of the place and the people in there, so 90s bar, with a mix of old and young people.

Drinks are reasonably priced, and i think it is probably ‘the best bar of its type’. It plays music from the 90s, so thats dance and europop stuff, so if you are in your mid twenties you will be able to listen to the songs you loved as a kid in a bar

The new additions are a lick of paint, and some new seating and tables, general furnature.

Its really easy to spot who comes every week, the girls order these massive cocktails in funky looking glasses, and you get the feeling that they are regulars :P

It is a good bar, i would get bored of it week in week out, but it is fun :)

Olly Muirs was in Tup Tup Palace with his mate Danyl Johnson, the X Factor stars were having a good drink, maybe Olly should save his cash for a new pair of jeans, ones without a hole in them in a very suspect place!!!

Stacey Solomon was also there, looking amazing! She looks great and is so sweet! :) Shame i wasnt in on that night :(

Some other X Factor finalists were there.

I wanna be on the Guestlist or V.I.P

Posted by NewcastleVIP on March 9, 2010

I probably get asked this the most out of everything, which is, can you get me on the VIP/Guestlist for certain places….

The question comes mostly from people outside of Newcastle on a night out. The easiest way of getting on the guestlist, or VIP or whatever, is to contact the bar/club direct and letting them know. If you dont know which bar/club, read my reviews, and pick which one you like then contact them. A lot of them also have Facebook groups/pages set up, and you can ask them via that.

The thing is with the Newcastle Guestlists/VIP is that in most cases, ANYONE can be on them. So this makes them less “VIP-ish”.

Most dont offer anything at all, other than to queue jump, and usually that is only before a certain time; For example you can go to Tiger Tiger, and be on the guestlist via their website. However, lots of people do this, and i have seen lots of the time the normal queue be much smaller than the guestlist queue!

In Bijoux they have a VIP type of area, where you can book a table, just call them in advance. I was in there the other week, and there were 2 girls sitting alone in the “VIP” at their table…Which didnt look like they were having much of a good time!

If you are going out with a group of people this can be a fun thing to do, but you may find in some places you alienate yourself from the rest of the crowd, it all depends on what you are like, what you want etc.

Tup Tup Palace have a VIP, but will only open it up to you if you have money…There are minimum spends, depending on what yours is, depends on the area they will let you have. I believe the absolute minimum is around £250, which is an upper dancefloor booth for upto 8 people, that price doesnt include the 10% service charge for the hostess.

Other places which let you reserve an area/table are Revolution and Floritas, aswell as the others mentioned; Tiger Tiger and Bijoux all of these are free to reserve.

What do you think of the VIP style nights? Have you had one in Newcastle, what was it like? Let me know by adding your comments :)

I should also add that Newcastle VIP is not a booking service, i can help you, but we dont book tables for visitors :)
