Milecastle
Milecastle is a nice pub/bar/club
Posted by Michael on December 20, 2009I was in The Milecastle last night, and it is a nice place. It used to be the old sports cafe, now ran by JD Wetherspoons. The majority of the layout is the same as there were no major changes to be made. The decor is different, now there are nice carpets, tables and other fixtures and fittings. The main bar on the middle floor has a pub feel to it, and you can now get directly down to the basement club part without going up the stairs to the middle bar and back down.
After a certain time (10pm i believe) there is a charge to get in. This is only £2 and was the same when it was the sports cafe. This is a little dangerous, because it is supposed to be a pub, but does have a club, and you shouldn’t pay to get into a pub, especially a Wetherspoons pub with their reputation of having reasonable prices.
Milecastle New Bar in Newcastle by JD Wetherspoons
Posted by Michael on December 8, 2009The new bar which we wrote about a few weeks back opens this week, and its called The Milecastle. As we previously said, it is owned by the JD Weatherspoon chain, who promised last week to create thousands of jobs. It replaces the old Sports Cafe which is located on Westgate road.
This place looked like it was still in the building stages only 2 weeks ago, never mind ready to open…However it seems that bars get their builders from another planet to the rest of us, because yet again a bar opens waaaaay ahead of schedule.
What should you expect? Well it’s said there will be 3 bars on the 3 floors, with 2 dancefloor areas. It will specialise in real ales, have music on throughout the day and DJs on Friday and Saturday nights. It will be open until 3AM on a Saturday night. So a typical Wetherspoons pub with a city-bar twist, we shall see if it is any good very soon, as its supposed to be opening this Friday (11 December 2009).
