The Vineyard Newcastle taking on muppets as bar staff
Posted by NewcastleVIP on September 13, 2009For an unknown reason some (a small minority) of the bar staff in Newcastle think they own the town. They think they are better than the public because they are on the other side of the bar. Phillip Maxwell is one of those people. The only power they have in life is they can act like an arse, and seem to be able to get away with it because they will use the “he was drunk” line (it doesnt matter if that is true). If it were any other retail sector they simply would not get away with it, if they were rude or abusive, they would be put in their place.
Phillip Maxwell decided that he didnt like someone, so used his massive power to go and tell the bouncer to throw a person out, he looked pretty pleased with himself….This was in fact a girl, what a hero MR Maxwell is, having to get a bouncer to throw out a girl. A person with intelligence or experience would try to diffuse the situation, or at least be friendly.
The Vineyard is a good bar, who unfortunatly employ this numpty. I bought a vodka and Redbull like i reguarly do, and in the 5 years i have been going to this bar i have never encountered any problems, i get my drink i asked for, pay my money and that is that, as it should be. However, Phill decided for some reason act like an arse, did not give me the can of Redbull (which i have paid for) poured some into the vodka and took the can away. I asked him about this and he repeated “its finished, its finished”…It is clear it was not, which is illegal. If i buy something then i should get it, i have a receipt (shown below) with Redbull listed, however never got it….If i was in a clothing store and paid for a suit, i wouldnt be happy if they told me “here you go, we dont have a jacket to go with it though”. This is against the Sale of Goods act, as the item purchased was not “as described”.

1 Grey Street Newcastle The Vineyard Best Bar
Posted by NewcastleVIP on May 4, 2009The Bar which is at the start of grey street is named…Well No.1 Grey Street aka The Vineyard. This is billed as a winebar, but its not really the type of thing you might expect.
It is more of a latin wine/cocktail kind of place. They serve beer but only bottles of Duvel, which if you dont know is really really strong lager. It is very nice too, but have too many and you wont see much in front of your face. The place itself is small, in fact tiny in comparison to other places. It probably one of the smallest bars in Newcastle, but that makes it great. Other things on the drinks menu is many cocktails aswell as the usual long drinks, and vodka redbull of course. Drinks prices are moderate verging on expensive; A Duvel costs around £3.50 and Single Vodka Redbull is around £6; Which isnt too bad for that area just off the Diamond Strip.
It is usually full on the weekend, and the type of crowd it attracts are older people, 20s – 40s which is better than it sounds, as 99% of the time you dont get random charva kids who look 15 years old.
The best thing about this place is it has character and individuality. It plays great music, a huge mix of Latin with US and UK urban flavors; So you can expect to hear Daddy Yankee, Gypsey Kings aswell as Kevin Lyttle and others to name a few. Staff are always friendly, crowd is friendly (there may be the 1 stuck up 37yr old who thinks hes better than the rest but thats rare).
I think this is definatly one of the best bars in Newcastle and consistantly is, simply because it offers something different to all the other bars in the area which offer very similar things. Great music (if you’re into it-i am), nice drinks, nice size place, fast/friendly service…I cant think of much bad to say about the place; Maybe a few more señoritas
Footballers Kieran Dyer, Nobby Solano and Oba Martins are known to have had a beverage in this place
