Newcastle Clubbing Pics 19 September Weekend
Posted by Michael on September 22, 2009Encalve @ Perdu on Mondays
Posted by Michael on September 22, 2009Monday nights for students sees Enclave at Perdu. There promo for this event says “This is for serious house music lovers, indie/rnb fans beware”……No Seriously, that is what they are saying!
Talk about alienating people before they even get into the venue, i thought Perdu only did that to people once they got through the door
So we have established that this is a house music night. As for drinks the button game makes an appearence woohoo so if you are lucky you might find yourself getting your drink, or drinks for free! Is is only on for 1 hour, from 22.00 – 23.00, and i suspect only certain drinks. After 23.00 most drinks cost a nice round £2.20, with bottles, draught, cocktails and spirits.
If you wanna be posh tables are available at £20 each and you get Q-jump and Guestlist price entry.
Entry is £3-£4 on the door, doors are at 22.00 – 03.00

90s Kids Tiger Tiger – Are you a 90s Kids?
Posted by Michael on September 22, 2009I was a kid in the 90s…It was great, so much fun, we had the technology which the 80s kids didnt and the fun the 00’s kids dont get these days because of the sorry state this country is in with all the red tape, boring adults, asbos etc. ANYWAY…
Tiger Tiger’s new brainchild is “90s Kids“, a 90s theme night which happens every Thursdays, aimed at the Uni kids. They have had a refurb and have 3 new rooms with “3 different styles”…
It seems like it is the only thing about it which is 90s, the crowd. The music on offer is 90s 00s and current, which is basically standard.
They talk up all the old skool 90s things in their promo like Megadrives, nokia 3310’s and so on…But it seems that there is not much on offer apart from the music. It is a nightclub fair enough, but if you are going to give it a theme why not go all out? They could of had some cool things like a retro lounge with old skool consoles (SNES/Megadrive) on huge screens, that would look sick! Its not a normal thing to have in a club, but this night is supposed to have a theme to it….Why not get some old 3310’s (since they mention them in their flyer) and give them away…Why not do thw whole glow stick/uv paint thing (probably more 80s/current than 90s really)….
So many possibilities, but it seems they aren’t taking them, and doing a generic half arse job…Other than the music and the odd thing, what sets it apart from somewhere like Reflex or Flares?
90s Kids is on Thursday at Tiger Tiger starting this week. Entry is £3-£4 and doors open at 22.00 – 03.00, Drinks starting at £1

Posted by Michael on September 13, 2009The Vineyard Newcastle taking on muppets as bar staff
Posted by Michael on September 13, 2009For an unknown reason some (a small minority) of the bar staff in Newcastle think they own the town. They think they are better than the public because they are on the other side of the bar. Phillip Maxwell is one of those people. The only power they have in life is they can act like an arse, and seem to be able to get away with it because they will use the “he was drunk” line (it doesnt matter if that is true). If it were any other retail sector they simply would not get away with it, if they were rude or abusive, they would be put in their place.
Phillip Maxwell decided that he didnt like someone, so used his massive power to go and tell the bouncer to throw a person out, he looked pretty pleased with himself….This was in fact a girl, what a hero MR Maxwell is, having to get a bouncer to throw out a girl. A person with intelligence or experience would try to diffuse the situation, or at least be friendly.
The Vineyard is a good bar, who unfortunatly employ this numpty. I bought a vodka and Redbull like i reguarly do, and in the 5 years i have been going to this bar i have never encountered any problems, i get my drink i asked for, pay my money and that is that, as it should be. However, Phill decided for some reason act like an arse, did not give me the can of Redbull (which i have paid for) poured some into the vodka and took the can away. I asked him about this and he repeated “its finished, its finished”…It is clear it was not, which is illegal. If i buy something then i should get it, i have a receipt (shown below) with Redbull listed, however never got it….If i was in a clothing store and paid for a suit, i wouldnt be happy if they told me “here you go, we dont have a jacket to go with it though”. This is against the Sale of Goods act, as the item purchased was not “as described”.
This article has been updated as we received a complained from Phillips Mummy.
Newcastle Council Are Wankers and Trash “Trashed” @ The Attic
Posted by Michael on September 9, 2009There has been yet more things in the media and on the news in the past week about alcohol and how its wiping out the planet, killing everyone who comes into contact with it like its anthrax. Newcastle City Council are doing their “we’re doing something about it” part, by slamming the promotion that The Attic or “people at the Attic” decided to run.
The Attic decided to house a “lets all get drunk” style of night, called Trashed which was supposed to run every Tuesday. However The Council have now decided that this is far too extreme, calling a night trashed and advertising it with statements such as “If you are sober enough to drive home at 3am we’ll give you your entry fee back”. The night got cancelled.
There is some group of losers called “Balance” who are the first alcohol agency aka the “we dont want you to have a good time” brigade. Their director, Colin Shevills said something interesting which was:
“This is one of the most outrageous and irresponsible drinks promotion offers I have ever witnessed. “Two things worry me about it: the alcohol is so cheap and it makes it seem totally harmless, which it is not.
“The thing that is new to me is that it seems to be rewarding people who get the most drunk.”
OK MR Shevills, i ask you, have you EVER had a night out in Newcastle? I dont think so. If you have, then you will find that MANY of the bars offer drinks promotions, free shots on entry, buy x and get y free, the list is endless. So why has this been singled out? Is it the name, Trashed? Maybe.
OK, so the bar should probably not encourage binge drinking, that is fair enough. But why do these people not understand you have to be an adult to buy alcohol, and if i want to drink myself into oblivion then i will. If i want to have a pint then i will do that. I am an adult and i will choose what i drink and how much i will drink. If people want to drink lots then they will, regardless of things such as price. If for example a bottle of alcopop goes from £3.50 a bottle to £10 (lets exaggerate a bit) people will move onto something else like vodka, because you get more drunk on that. If people want to get drunk for the sake of it then they will simply buy whatever happens to be the cheapest form of alcohol. You cannot price everyone out of it, because bars would loose money and most would have to close.
The promotion just highlighted that it wanted you to get drunk, in reality all the bars want you to be drunk, because being drunk means you are spending money. So why dont the Council remove all the licences for the bars which run any kind of promotion, then we will have literally a handfull of bars, which means Newcastle, “A great night out” will have lots and lots of empty buildings and look terrible. Does this mean that ‘all you can eat’ places and things of that nature should be closed down, because that encourages obesity? Kiss goodbye to the Tourism/student money Council people
Newcastle nightlife is for people who want to have a good time. We do not need a bunch of suit wearing morons to tell us how to have a night, espeically when they clearly do not have a clue what is going on. Seriously, get with the program.
Linekers Newcastle is Stag and Hen Heaven
Posted by Michael on September 3, 2009For the first time i went into Linekers Bar in Newcastle which used to be 55Degrees North and also Box.
It is still a huge space, like it was previously, and it can look very empty indeed if you dont fill the space. We went early, (making excuses for it already) but still were in there till around 8.30 and there were some people in there, but far from full.
They have offers on for drinks before 8pm, my friend got a double vodka and was charged the normal price and not the offer price which is plastered all over the walls.
As for other drinks, they have a good selection, but dont expect anything premium in this place; I suppose its not the market they are aiming for, and its a good job because they miss it in spectacular style. I specificly asked the barman “do you do redbull” which he said ‘yes’ so i got one….then he pulls out a litre bottle of red rooster, opens it, pours some in and puts it back…HOW CHEAP!!! Its one thing when the bars use cheap energy drinks, and the bars which use 1 can for different people (which is out of order) but this is worst i have seen.
The place attracts the Stag and Hen parties, and when i was in there must of been 3 or 4 in there at the same time. These make up most the people, so it was strange to see maybe 100 people in the place, but segregated into 6 or 7 groups with massive spaces in the middle.
They do have nice sofas to sit on, massive tv screens so if you like sport this is the place to go. I noticed they have Sky Italia hooked up, which means they have the ability to broadcast more or less every premiership game.
I dont think i would go back here. It was a change, but because of its location it doesnt get enough people in it needs to, making the place look empty, just as it did when it was Box. They need a designer to design a better use of the massive space they have.
