Posted by NewcastleVIP on July 28, 2009For the summer, Liquid Envy have a new summer dress code, which is more relaxed letting in customers wearing white and smart trainers. This makes sense, you can have a pair of nice smart trainers which look good, so why ban them from a nightclub? Well done to Liquid Envy for this move, still not letting people in with tatoos though, but its a start
Madame Koo, Baby Lynch and Floritas to go scumtastic
Posted by NewcastleVIP on July 23, 2009According to their Facebook page, The team behind Floritas, Baby Lynch and Madame Koo are looking for shooter girls to sell drinks to their customers.
What are they thinking?! These places are supposed to be classy bars, and now it looks like they are following the trend of the lower class bars by having people come round and annoy you and pressure you into buying more drinks.
I personally HATE these kinds of things bars do. You are the customer, and have chose their establishment out of many that are in Newcastle. You buy their drinks, but now that is not enough for them. They now have people going around trying to sell you more. Shots are cool! I love them. Sambuca, Jagermeister, Tequila, i love drinking shots. But, if i want one, i know where the bar is. Why do the bars feel the need to have this kind of gimmick.
They do have their place. I can understand them being in a place such as City Vaults, Chase and ‘fun bars’; But The bars on The Diamond Strip are supposed to be more upmarket, and have class. There is nothing upmarket about having a girl come round trying to sell you something.
One of the good things about these bars is that they dont (or didnt) have girls coming round bugging you and interrupting your night. That seems to have now gone, and these three bars are now copying the trend which is the shot girl.
The Cooperage Closes – They Bring the Noise
Posted by NewcastleVIP on July 22, 2009One bar which Newcastle VIP likes is The Cooperage. It is historic, and is one of the few places in Newcastle which has not followed the trend with the posh bars and has individuality and character. The character has now gone, because The Cooperage is no more.
This is because the council has got noise complaints, and city council planners decided that it must be soundproofed…This is crazy?! Why would it need to be soundproofed? The Cooperage is one of the oldest places in Newcastle, and things were fine before, and now the council have decided that because of some complaints that the place needs to be silenced.
This is no coincidence that there are nearby new-bulid apartment complex’s which are a new addition to the city. If you are living in a city you should expect to have noise, if you are buying a place close to bars or nightclubs then it is to be expected. This kind of move from the council could kill Newcastle’s nightlife. The Bewick House was also forced to stop their music for the very same reason.
It is even more of a shame when you find out that these apartment blocks are not selling well, some sit empty, while others have been repossessed and then sold on for half of their price. They are over-priced tiny flats, and a few years on we have seen some such as “The Bar” complex, one apartment sold in 2006 for £235,995; The exact same apartment sold in 2009 for £117,000.
Maybe the council will see sense, although i doubt it. The Cooperage seems to be gone, and others could follow, lets hope not.

Newcastle Bar and Clubing Pics 18th July Weekend
Posted by NewcastleVIP on July 20, 2009Oompa Loompas in Tup Tup Palace
Posted by NewcastleVIP on July 19, 2009OK, for some reason, some girls (and some men!?) think looking like an Oompa Loompa is a good thing. Being Overtanned, whether it be fake tan or a sunbed looks BAD! Seriously! It looks unnatural and you look like a bright orange Oompa Loompa! It seems that this is the dress code for Tup Tup Palace, as a vast majority of their ladies seem to be going for the Orange Tango look.
The thing which is worse than them looking bad is that they believe they look good! Girls, you look overdone, and trust me, you do not look good! Makeup painted on with a roller and so orange it makes you look like you are not well. It effects girls with blonde and light hair the most, as they have naturally lighter skin. So when they look a dark orange colour with their blonde hair they look ridiculous.
Maybe Tup Tup should get Tango as their sponsor, i’m sure they will be able to find some of their customers to endorse the orangeness
Make up your own mind from these the best of the worst pics….
Best Bar None – What does it mean?
Posted by NewcastleVIP on July 16, 2009If you have been in bars in Newcastle you will have probably seen a poster on the wall which says “best bar none” or “accredited bar” or something similar, and wondered what its all about.
Best Bar None is basically a scheme which licenced premiese (i.e. bars and clubs) join. They get automatically certified if their bar passes their cirteria which is more or less about safety.
However, this does not mean that the bar is good at all, in any way. Some bars do not use the scheme…Why? Well you have to pay to join, and although most places do join, it doesnt really mean anything in reality.
Most places do join this scheme in Newcastle, it seems to be standard practice and its something for the bar to shout about “we have been awarded best bar none status”. It actually means nothing if you are going to a place; For example, if you go to an accredited place it will not be better than a place which is not purely because of this certificate which is behind the bar.
The best bar none awards tells its own story. The 2009 winner of the best bar none overall bar was “The Telegraph”. Not many people would consider this “the best” bar in the town, or even close.
They promote saftey and places which “are genuinely striving to reduce alcohol related disorder and promote responsible drinking”. However they have bars which promote binge drinking, notably trebles bars, Quilted Camel, Mushroom bar and Clear bar; so i can’t see how that is promoting respobsible drinking.
So there you go. Best Bar None doesnt really mean a great deal. Bars i have noticed which arent on the 2009 list are Bar Beyond and Bannatyne…Idols and Popworld are on the list…Does that mean they are more safe? Nope it doesnt
